About the Role
EWON is seeking a dedicated First Nations Community Engagement Officer to build awareness of EWON and energy and water issues across Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in NSW.
The role will help ensure EWON’s services are accessible, culturally responsive, and meet the needs of First Nations consumers. It will also provide specialist support to our Dispute Resolution Team, helping First Nations customers navigate complaints and achieve fair outcomes.
This is a great opportunity drive meaningful change to improve accessibility of energy and water complaint services for First Nations customers and strengthen EWON’s ongoing responsiveness to the needs of First Nations communities.


Key Accountabilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate outreach activities to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community awareness of and access to EWON.
  • Develop and implement programs to educate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers about energy and water issues.
  • Actively build and maintain networks of community and government organisations that work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, ensuring contact information is recorded and updated.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, Elders, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Aboriginal organisations and other stakeholders to ensure engagement approaches are culturally appropriate, community-informed, and effective in increasing the reach and impact of EWON's engagement initiatives.
  • Identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community resource needs and assist with the development and distribution of resources in consultation with communications staff.


Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in a similar role
  • Highly developed understanding of protocols for interacting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a culturally appropriate manner
  • High-level understanding of the historical, social and systemic drivers of disadvantage experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Strong track record in building, growing and maintaining networks with a range of stakeholders to expand reach and maximise engagement outcomes
  • Experience planning and coordinating events, including the ability to troubleshoot when necessary
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel frequently, work on weekends, early mornings and evenings, as required
  • Hold a current full Australian Drivers’ Licence.
